How you can improve your guitar playing for the short and long term
Today, we are going to look at some of the best things you can do for you to improve your guitar playing in the short term and long term.
Set some goals for yourself
To kick-start your progress on the guitar, let’s make sure you have some goals for yourself. Make sure you know what it is that you actually want to be able to do on the guitar and you get excited at the thought of it.
What sort of guitarists do you want to play like?
What are your favourite songs that you want to play with ease? Whatever it is that excites you about the guitar?
Write them down.
Set some targets for yourself. Make sure you make the goals specific and they are for you to improve your guitar playing.
Find out, or get help to work out how to get to your goal
You need to find out the right information that you need to apply to your guitar playing to get to your goal(s). It may be that you can do this by yourself, which would be great. In the majority of instances, we find that people struggle by themselves.
You may need to get an expert professional to get you this information that you need to do it. Once you have the information, you need to a plan to apply this information to your guitar playing. Including learning, practises. Start working on this plan towards your goal with the right help and instructions.
Believe in the plan
You need to believe in the plan that you have. Put your best efforts and time into it. I see a lot of people struggle at this point because they don’t trust the plan. (Which is why it may be worth seeking professional help that you trust. And then you can trust in the plan they have provided for you.)
I see a lot of people who sabotage their own plan because they don’t trust it and don’t put any real effort in. And then when it doesn’t work, they wonder why! You need to put in effort to get some level of result out of it.
Reviewing your plan
Sometimes your plan doesn’t work as well as you had hoped. That’s why we need to review your plan. Find out what’s working, and what isn’t. Again, if you haven’t gotten someone to help you, this might be the point where you go and get that information that you need. And every time you get a new plan, keep going at it with your best effort.
Keep playing and practising.
When you have a sense of believe in yourself and put in the hard work, you will see improvements in your playing.
Getting a guitar teacher or guitar mentor
As I have already mentioned. You may be able to reach your goals by yourself and it’s great if you are able to. In almost all situations, having someone to guide you will get you much faster progress. And you will have less frustrations as you work on your plan with someone by your side.
